About the event
Southold Historical Museum is delighted to host the book release party of the brand-new historical novel by Mary Korpi entitled The Lady Lighthouse Keeper. The novel is based on the life of Stella Prince who kept the light at Horton Point for many years but was the lighthouse keeper of record from May 1903-1904. The only female lighthouse keeper, Prince’s story inspired Mary Korpi to write a novel revolving around her.
The launch will be on Saturday, April 2 at 2pm at the Museum’s Ann Currie-Bell house located on the Maple Lane Complex at 55200 Main Road, Southold. The author will speak about her writing journey, what drew her to Stella's story, and read a couple of passages from the book. Following the talk, there will be light refreshments and an opportunity to meet Mary Korpi. The Lady Lighthouse Keeper will be available for purchase and inscription by the author.
Southold Historical Museum maintains a Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse which is the original keepers’ quarters. Additionally, museum volunteers (who are coincidentally coined “lighthouse keepers”) bring visitors up the tower and share insights into the lives of the lighthouse keepers and local nautical history. The Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse will reopen on May 28 for the 2022 season.
