Education & Programming Liaison (Part-Time)
 

Southold Historical Museum – Southold, NY
Hourly Rate: $24–$27
Schedule: Three days per week (Part-Time)

Southold Historical Museum seeks a supportive professional to help coordinate its public programs, education initiatives, and volunteer engagement. This position organizes schedules, events, educational opportunities, and outreach while empowering volunteers and interns. 
The Education & Programming Liaison works closely with staff, volunteers, and community partners to advance the Museum’s mission and foster a vibrant connection to the history of Southold.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration & Coordination
●    Update the Museum’s Office Calendar of programs, tours, and special events.
●    Support the recruitment, training, and scheduling of volunteers and interns.
●    Serve as liaison to schools, youth organizations, and community partners.
●    Coordinate program logistics (e.x, set-up/breakdown, staffing, and visitor feedback).
●    Track attendance and engagement for reports and grant applications.
●    Attend meetings with program staff, committees, and event partners.
Programs & Education
●    Maintain a range of on-site and virtual programs for families, students, adults, and special-interest groups aligned with best practices in museum interpretation.
●    Collaborate with staff to present engaging content for exhibits, events, and social media.
Programs
●    Coordinate Museum-sponsored events, including fundraisers, lectures, seasonal celebrations, and community activities.
●    Work with the Executive Director and committees to host programs that broaden audiences, increase membership, and deepen community connections.
●    Ensure smooth visitor experiences through thoughtful planning, clear communication, and hands-on support during programs.


QUALIFICATIONS
●    Preferred experience in event planning, education, museum administration, historic site interpretation, library science, and/or community engagement.
●    Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
●    A flexible and friendly, “I’m here to help,” attitude for working with volunteers, staff, students, and diverse audiences.
●    Enthusiasm for sharing local history with the public.
●    Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new software and digital tools.
●    Bachelor’s degree in education, nonprofit management, history, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
●    Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds and perform occasional physical tasks related to event setup, such as moving chairs, tables, and display materials.

 

TERMS
This is a part-time, non-exempt position requiring approximately 24 hours per week (three days). The schedule may include occasional evenings and weekend hours to support programs; flexibility in scheduling is expected. The position reports directly to the Executive Director.
Work is performed on-site at the Southold Historical Museum’s office (54325 Main Road, Southold, NY), with the option for limited remote work as approved by the Executive Director.
$24–$27 per hour, commensurate with experience. 5 days of paid time off and 5 days of paid sick leave annually. No additional benefits are offered.
