À propos de l'événement
Sally Snowman, the last official lighthouse keeper in the United States, and Jeremy D'Entremont, historian for the U.S. Lighthouse Society, will team up for this illustrated presentation Thursday, April 16 at 1:00 PM at Southold Historical Museum’s Maple Lane Campus (55200 Main Road, Southold).
Women lighthouse keepers in the northeastern U.S. will be spotlighted, starting with Hannah Thomas in Plymouth, Massachusetts -- the first woman keeper on the continent. Also discussed will be Kate Walker at Robbins Reef in New York Harbor, Kate Moore at Fayerweather Island in Bridgeport, CT. and Ida Lewis at Lime Rock in Newport, Rhode Island. Sally Snowman will discuss her 20 years as the keeper of America's oldest light station, Boston Light. Sally's retirement marked the end of an era, bringing to a close more than three centuries of lighthouse keepers employed by the federal government.
