Bookkeeper (Part-Time)

Hourly Rate: $27/hour
Schedule: One day per week (Part-Time)
Benefits: Paid Time Off (3 Days), Sick Leave (1.5 Days Annually)

Southold Historical Museum is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our dedicated team. This part-time role is essential to the smooth financial operation of our nonprofit organization and offers a flexible one-day-per-week schedule at our Main Road office in Southold.

Key Responsibilities:
● Maintain accurate records using QuickBooks Online
● Process accounts payable and payroll
● Record and reconcile donations, issue receipts, and manage Square point-of-sale transactions
● Complete monthly bank reconciliations
● File NYS sales tax and prepare necessary government filings
● Assist with annual reporting and coordination with external accountants
● Communicate with government agencies as needed
● Maintain organized, auditable records for grants and restricted funds
● Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the Executive Director, Treasurer, and Board of Trustees
● Support tracking and reconciliation of Museum investments and endowment funds
● Collaborate with the Executive Director and Treasurer to ensure fiscal accountability and transparency
Qualifications:
● Proven experience with QuickBooks Online
● Familiarity with Square or similar point-of-sale systems
● Prior experience in nonprofit bookkeeping preferred
● Proficient in bank reconciliation, sales tax filings, and payroll processing
● Strong communication skills and professional experience working with government agencies
● Ability to work independently, accurately, and confidentially
● Knowledge of basic GAAP principles and nonprofit financial management a plus
Location:
Work is performed on-site at the Southold Historical Museum’s office, located at 54325 Main Road, Southold, NY.
